BIKINI LINE, CLEANED UP.

Low-melt hard wax that tidies the bikini line, sharpens your shape, and grips the coarse edge hair a razor keeps missing. Stripless and gentle enough for a first timer, precise enough to shape exactly the line you want.

Choose your shape

How much you take off is the whole decision.

A bikini wax is about shaping, not clearing everything. The line you draw decides how much comes off, from a quick tidy of the sides to a fuller cleanup. Here is what each choice actually means before you pick up the wax.

01

Basic bikini line

The classic starting point. You remove only the hair that would peek out of underwear or a swimsuit, along the sides and the top. Everything inside the panty line stays. It is the fastest, gentlest wax and the easiest first one to do yourself.

02

Full bikini

A basic bikini line plus a little more off the top and sides for a narrower, tidier look. Still nothing removed from the front to back center. A good middle step if a basic tidy feels too subtle but a Brazilian feels like a lot.

03

French or extended bikini

A French bikini takes more off the front and leaves a slim strip or triangle while keeping the intimate back area alone. Some salons call a wider-than-basic version an extended or high bikini, removing more from the sides and top. Both stop short of going front to back, so they sit between a bikini wax and a Brazilian.

04

Choosing how much to take off

Your shape is your call, and the line you draw is the whole point of a bikini wax. Start with a basic tidy of the sides and top, then go narrower over time if you want. Because you decide the edge before any wax goes on, you are always in control of how much comes off and where the hair stops.

05

Coarse hair at the edges

The hair right along the bikini line is often thicker and more stubborn than the fine hair a razor handles elsewhere. That coarse edge hair is exactly what snaps and gets missed by shaving, and exactly what a hard wax is built to lift from the root.

06

Bumps and ingrowns on the line

The bikini line rubs against underwear and swimwear all day, so it is the number one spot for razor bumps and ingrowns. Waxing pulls from the root and, paired with light exfoliation between sessions, keeps the line smoother than a shave ever will.

What the line needs

What a bikini line wax actually needs.

Four things separate a clean bikini line you shaped on purpose from a patchy, irritated one covered in half-pulled hair and next-day bumps.

01

Built for the coarse hair at the edges

The hair along the bikini line is often the thickest on the whole area, coarser than the fine hair a razor handles higher up. Full On Meltdown is a hard wax that hardens around that stubborn edge hair and lifts it from the root in one piece, taking only what you meant to remove and leaving the delicate skin beside it intact.

02

Low melting point

It has a low melt point, around 180°F in the pot, and is applied cooler once it settles to a workable, honey-like consistency. That keeps it comfortable on the thin, folding skin of the bikini line, unlike waxes that run hotter and stay stiff in a zone that cannot take it.

03

Stripless, so you can shape a crisp edge

A bikini wax is a shaping job, and shape lives at the edge. Because the wax lifts off as one solid piece with no paper strip to drag your line crooked, you can define exactly where the hair stops and control how much you take off, from a basic tidy to a fuller line. Less friction, less lifting, less irritation.

Format matters at the edge

Why hard wax keeps a bikini line sharp.

A bikini wax is a shaping job, so the format that keeps your edge clean wins. Hard wax lifts off as one solid piece with no strip to drag your line crooked, and it grips the coarse edge hair without grabbing the skin. Soft wax adheres to the skin too, and every strip blurs the edge across an area that cannot afford it.

The full ritual

The at-home bikini line routine.

The bikini line rewards prep and punishes shortcuts. Decide your shape first, then a few minutes before and a consistent habit after are the difference between a clean, ingrown-free line and a week of bumps.

Step 01, before the rip

Map your line, then trim, cleanse, and powder.

Decide how much you are taking off before any wax goes on. Hair should be about 1/4 inch long, roughly three to four weeks of growth. Longer than that, trim it down first. Cleanse the area, pat it fully dry, then dust on a pre-wax powder to absorb sweat and oil so the wax bonds to the hair and not the skin. On the coarse edge hair, that is what makes the pull clean instead of patchy.

  • Decide your shape, then trim to about 1/4 inch of growth.
  • Cleanse, pat fully dry, then dust powder over the line.
  • Pull skin taut. Apply wax with the grain, flick off against it.
Step 02, after the rip

Soothe now. Exfoliate later to stop ingrowns.

Right after, the skin is warm and the follicles are open. Cool and calm it first with a soothing gel, then seal it with a light oil. The ingrown prevention happens over the following days: because the bikini line sits under tight clothing, gentle chemical exfoliation two to three times a week keeps the new hair from curling back under the skin.

Common questions

Bikini line waxing, answered.

The questions we get most about waxing and shaping the bikini line at home.

What is the difference between a bikini wax and a Brazilian? +

A bikini wax removes only the hair around the bikini line, the sides and top that would show outside underwear or a swimsuit, while a Brazilian removes all or nearly all the hair front to back. A bikini wax is a shaping service where you choose how much comes off, from a basic tidy to a fuller line. A Brazilian is the fullest option and the most intense. Bikini line is the natural entry point, and many people start there before ever considering a Brazilian. If you want the fullest removal, our Brazilian waxing guide walks through that service step by step.

What is the best wax for bikini line at home? +

A low-melt, stripless hard wax is best for the bikini line at home. The edge hair here is coarser than the fine hair elsewhere on the body, and hard wax molds around it and lifts it from the root while gripping the delicate skin far less than soft strip wax. Crybaby Wax Full On Meltdown is built for exactly this: it has a low melt point, no synthetic dyes, and pulls stubborn hair cleanly so you can keep a crisp line.

How do I wax my bikini line without bumps? +

Prep well, keep the wax at a low temperature, and pull with clean technique. Start with clean, fully dry skin and a dusting of pre-wax powder so the wax grips hair instead of skin. Pull the skin taut and remove each piece fast and low, against the direction of growth, and use a low-melt hard wax that grips the hair rather than the delicate skin. Then keep up a light exfoliation habit in the days after to stop new hair from getting trapped under the line.

Hard wax or soft wax for bikini? +

Hard wax for the bikini line. The line has coarse edge hair and delicate, folding skin, which is exactly what hard wax is built for: it grips the hair, not the skin, and lifts off as one solid piece with no fabric strip dragging across the area. Soft wax adheres to the skin as well as the hair, so it causes more irritation, more lifting, and a blurrier line. Hard wax also lets you shape a precise edge.

How long does bikini hair need to be to wax? +

About 1/4 inch, or roughly three to four weeks of growth after shaving. That length gives the wax enough to grip without being so long that removal drags along the bikini line. If the hair is longer than 1/4 inch, trim it down first for a cleaner, more comfortable pull and a sharper shape.

Can I wax my bikini line on my period? +

You can, but it is not the most comfortable timing. Skin is more pain-sensitive in the days right before and during your period, so the same wax will feel more intense along the bikini line. If you do wax on your period, wear a fresh tampon, and hygiene stays manageable. For the calmest session, aim for the week after your period ends.

How often should I wax my bikini line? +

Every three to four weeks, once the hair grows back to about 1/4 inch. Waxing on a consistent cycle keeps the line easy to maintain and, over time, the hair tends to grow back finer and more sparse. Waxing too soon, before there is enough length to grip, leads to a patchy pull, so let it reach 1/4 inch between sessions.

How do I prevent ingrown hairs on my bikini line? +

Exfoliate regularly between waxes and keep the skin moisturized. Starting about two days after your wax, use a gentle chemical exfoliant, an AHA or BHA, two to three times a week to keep dead skin from trapping the new hair as it grows back. Avoid tight clothing right after waxing, since friction along the bikini line is a top cause of ingrowns, and never pick at a bump. An AHA splash like Ride or Cry is designed for this step.

What are the different types of bikini wax? +

The main types are basic bikini, full bikini, French or extended bikini, and Brazilian. A basic bikini removes only the hair outside the underwear line, a full bikini takes a bit more off the top and sides, and a French bikini removes more from the front while leaving a slim strip. Some salons call a wider-than-basic version an extended or high bikini. A Brazilian removes all or nearly all the hair front to back. Choosing your type is really choosing how much you want to take off.

Does a bikini wax hurt? +

A bikini wax stings briefly, but it is less intense than a Brazilian because it removes hair from the bikini line rather than the most sensitive front-to-back areas. The discomfort is short and fades with each session as the hair grows back finer. Waxing the week after your period, keeping hair at about 1/4 inch, and using a low-melt hard wax that grips hair instead of skin all make it noticeably less painful.

Can you wax your own bikini line at home? +

Yes, the bikini line is one of the easier areas to wax yourself, which makes it a great first at-home wax. Because you are shaping the line rather than reaching behind, most of it is visible and within easy reach. Work in small sections, keep the skin pulled taut, and use a stripless hard wax like Full On Meltdown that sets around the hair and forgives your pace. A warmer and a mirror are all the extra setup you need.

How long does a bikini wax last? +

Typically three to four weeks. Because waxing removes the hair from the root rather than cutting it at the surface, regrowth along the bikini line is slower and softer than shaving, which returns in a day or two. Over consistent sessions the hair often grows back finer and more sparse, and the line gets easier to maintain each time.

Is it better to shave or wax the bikini line? +

Waxing lasts far longer and causes fewer bumps than shaving the bikini line. A shave lasts a day or two and often leaves razor bumps and stubble, while a wax lasts three to four weeks and pulls the coarse edge hair from the root. Shaving also tends to miss or snap the thicker hair along the line, whereas a hard wax lifts it cleanly. For a smooth, low-maintenance bikini line, waxing wins.

How do I do a bikini line wax step by step at home? +

First decide your shape, then melt the hard wax to a spreadable, honey-like consistency in a warmer. Cleanse and fully dry the area, then dust on a pre-wax powder. Working in small sections along the line, pull the skin taut and spread the wax in the direction of hair growth, leaving a thick edge to grip. Let it set for a few seconds until it is firm but not brittle, then flick the edge and pull it off fast against the direction of growth, keeping the pull low and close to the skin. Soothe with a cooling gel afterward.
