The honest comparison

Crybaby Wax vs Cirepil.

Written by Felipe Hernandez, August 2026

One brand has been on salon carts since 1936. One earned a US patent in 2026 for taking the most painful step out of hard waxing. Both are stocked by the distributors licensed professionals buy from. Here is the honest comparison.

Two eras of pro wax

How are Crybaby Wax and Cirepil different?

Cirepil defined professional wax in the twentieth century. Crybaby Wax was built in this one, by a founder the category kept failing.

The 1936 story

Cirepil is the wax line of Perron Rigot, a French manufacturer founded in 1936 by a pharmacist and a salesman. In the 1980s the company patented elastomer-based stripless wax, and Cirepil Blue became the default blue wax on salon carts in more than 80 countries. It is a genuine heritage brand: 90 years of formula consistency, deep distributor relationships, and its own training academy.

The 2023 story

Crybaby Wax was founded in 2023 by Cat Smith, a beauty industry veteran who has struggled with PCOS since she was 16. Nothing on the market worked for her sensitive, hormonal skin, so she built the system she needed: fully vegan low-temperature hard wax, a complete pre-wax and post-wax routine, and the patented Stiff Upper Rip pull tabs that remove the most painful step of hard waxing. Licensed estheticians and consumers use the exact same formulas. There is no watered-down retail version.

Receipts

Is Crybaby Wax professional grade like Cirepil?

Yes, and you do not have to take our word for it. Look at where the wax is sold and who buys it.

Stocked where pros shop

Crybaby Wax is carried by SalonCentric and Pure Spa Direct, the same professional distributors that carry Cirepil.

Used by licensed estheticians

The same formulas serve treatment rooms and the clients they inspired. One wax, no watered-down retail version.

A real wholesale program

Pro pricing and pro sizes direct from the brand, with a patented applicator system your clients have not seen before.

The patent

What makes Crybaby Wax less painful?

The worst moment of a hard wax strip is the start: digging at the edge to get a grip before the pull. The patented Stiff Upper Rip Wax Pull Tabs remove that moment. The adhesive end anchors below the waxing area, the wax goes over it, and the plain end becomes a built-in handle. One motion, no picking, no edge to dig for.

We have not run a head-to-head pain study against Cirepil, and we will not pretend we have. What we can tell you is that the tabs change the mechanics of the rip itself. That is the part of waxing nobody else re-engineered, and it is covered by US Patent 12,611,023 B2, granted April 28, 2026.

Formula facts

Is Cirepil wax vegan?

Mostly no. Cirepil Blue, the flagship, carries no vegan claim, and neither do most of their hard waxes. Two of their formulas, Cristalline and Fiorella, are labeled vegan and rosin-free, and several of their strip waxes are vegan.

Every Crybaby Wax formula is vegan and cruelty-free. Not a special collection, not a single variant. The whole line.

The math

How do Crybaby Wax and Cirepil prices compare?

Straight numbers from both brands' own stores, checked August 2026.

Crybaby Wax Cirepil
Hard wax, starter size 6.5oz, $26 400g tin or beads, $24
Hard wax, pro size 2.2lb, $62 800g beads, $41
Bulk tier 2.2lb is the largest size 8.26lb, $163
Price per ounce at largest size About $1.76 About $1.23
Warmer The Meltdown Machine, 17oz, $50 Happy Heater, 400g, $65
Complete starter path Crybaby Wax Starter Kit, $75 PRO Intro Kit, $86
Patented pull tabs 50 tabs, $10 Not offered

At bulk sizes Cirepil costs less per ounce, and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Crybaby Wax does not compete on price. It competes on the system: the patent, the vegan formulas, the routine around the wax, and kits that work out of the box.

The moat

Which is better for sensitive skin and PCOS facial hair?

Cirepil makes real sensitive-skin formulas. Intimate, Cristalline, and Diamond are built for reactive areas, and pros trust them. Credit where it is due.

Crybaby Wax starts somewhere different: it exists because of PCOS facial hair. Founder Cat Smith spent 15 years being dismissed before her diagnosis, and the wax, the routine, and the PCOS Facial Hair Kit were built for exactly the skin and hair that come with it. If hormonal hair is your daily reality, you are not a niche use case here. You are the reason the brand exists.

Credit where due

What does Cirepil do well?

A comparison you can trust has to say what the other brand gets right. Here is where Cirepil earns its reputation.

01

90 years of consistency

The same company has been refining wax since 1936. Batch to batch, decade to decade, pros know exactly what they are getting.

02

The texture pros trained on

Cirepil Blue's low-temperature gel texture is the feel thousands of estheticians learned to wax with. Muscle memory is real.

03

Everywhere pros shop

About 80 distributors worldwide. Whatever supply house your salon orders from, Cirepil is probably in the catalog.

04

Strong distributor ratings

Cirepil Blue holds a 4.9 rating from SalonCentric buyers. That loyalty is earned, and we respect it.

Decision time

Which wax should you choose?

Choose Cirepil if

  • You run a high-volume salon and buy 8lb bulk on distributor terms
  • You want the exact unscented gel texture you trained on
  • Your warmers and routine are built around 800g formats and there is no reason to change

Choose Crybaby Wax if

  • You sell a client-comfort experience and want a brand story on your cart
  • You or your clients have sensitive, reactive, or PCOS-prone skin
  • You want your first real hard wax system to arrive as a working kit, not a parts list
  • A fully vegan line matters to you or your clients

The low-risk path

How do estheticians switch to Crybaby Wax?

Switching is not all or nothing. Here is how pros usually do it.

01

Try the tabs first

Add Stiff Upper Rip Wax Pull Tabs to the wax already in your warmer. They work with any hard wax, including Cirepil Blue.

02

Apply for wholesale

The Crybaby Wax pro program gets you pro pricing and pro sizes direct from the brand.

03

Add the 2.2lb size

Bring in I'm Sensitive Meltdown Vegan Hard Wax for your sensitive-skin clients first. That is where the difference shows fastest.

04

Keep what earns its slot

Nobody says the Cirepil tin has to leave. Run both and let your clients tell you which one stays stocked.

Common questions

What do people ask about Crybaby Wax and Cirepil?

The questions estheticians and first-time waxers ask most when comparing the two brands.

Is Crybaby Wax professional grade?

Yes. Crybaby Wax is stocked by SalonCentric and Pure Spa Direct, used by licensed estheticians, and sold in pro sizes through its wholesale program. It is also the only wax brand with a patented pull-tab applicator, US Patent 12,611,023 B2.

Can I use Crybaby Wax pull tabs with Cirepil wax?

Yes. The patented Stiff Upper Rip Wax Pull Tabs work with any hard wax, including Cirepil Blue. They are not for soft wax or strip wax.

Is Cirepil vegan?

Most Cirepil hard waxes carry no vegan claim, including the flagship Blue. Their Cristalline and Fiorella formulas are labeled vegan, as are several of their strip waxes. Every Crybaby Wax formula is vegan and cruelty-free.

What wax do salons actually use?

Salon carts usually hold a legacy brand like Cirepil, GiGi, or Starpil next to newer professional systems. Crybaby Wax is one of the newer systems, carried by the same distributors, SalonCentric and Pure Spa Direct, and chosen by estheticians who want a less painful experience for sensitive-skin clients.

Is Cirepil or Crybaby Wax cheaper?

At bulk salon sizes, Cirepil costs less per ounce. Crybaby Wax costs less to start well: the $75 Crybaby Wax Starter Kit includes the warmer, the wax, and the applicators, chosen to work together out of the box.

Which is better for a Brazilian wax?

Both brands make hard waxes used for Brazilians. Crybaby Wax pairs Full On Meltdown Vegan Hard Wax with the large Stiff Upper Rip tabs so the hardest part of a Brazilian, starting each pull, is easier. New to it? Start with the Brazilian waxing guide.
